Although black and Hispanic adolescents report higher rates of dating violence than their white peers, to our knowledge, no study has evaluated the association between dating violence victimization and suicide specific to minority teenagers.

The YRBS is a biennial survey of public high school students designed and supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), conducted in states and localities throughout the United States since 1991.

The New York City (NYC) YRBS was first conducted in 1993; by 1997, response rates were high enough (60%) to produce usable data.
